What is the Winchcombe Unit?

The Winchcombe unit is a six bedded unit based at Cleeve Hill Nursing home. It provides Medical and Therapeutic care for the local community.
It is staffed by NHS Qualified Nurses with ancillary staff and Medical cover from Winchcombe Surgery.

Why have I been admitted to the Unit?

You have been admitted to the unit as it is considered that you will benefit from the level of care and attention that we can offer you. This may be after you have been in Hospital or after your GP has recommended that you be admitted for care, therapy or observation.

Your care plan will normally have been discussed with you before you come to the unit.  It will be reviewed with you regularly and changed according to your individual needs.

How long will my stay be?

The Winchcombe Unit is a short stay unit whose primary aim is to enable you to return home as quickly as possible and to continue to live as independently as you are able. Integral to this service are our skilled staff who include Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, and re-habilitation assistants. Our staff can also work with you at home depending on your needs and if necessary help you to arrange ongoing care.

Where will I receive my care and therapy?

As you will have your own room we can care for you in complete privacy. The unit is in a separate area from the Nursing Home and we have our own therapy room which provides physio and occupational therapy facilities.

What will the team expect of me?

We wish to make your stay as purposeful as possible. We will work with you in partnership to support you to reach the agreed aims of your care plan. We welcome your help and active participation in this.

If I am very sick can relatives stay?

If there is a need and if available, we have a family suite with overnight facilities where relatives can stay.
